Woohoo! This was a long weekend and Sunday was the perfect ending, that is until the evening rolled around and I ended up working and got stuck with the film crew until 1 am. But I’ll fill you in on that later.
The day started with an amazing Core Fusion class with two of my favorite NYC blog buddies, Dori and Missy. We took class at the Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District. Class yesterday was especially challenging and I left drenched. I love a good sweaty workout. We followed it up with a fabulous brunch in the West Village.
Dori was nice enough to share a Groupon with us for brunch at Centro Vinoteco. I’ve been wanting to try out this restaurant for a while and was happy to finally get the chance. As soon as we sat we were given three menus to choose from, a Prix Fixe brunch, an a la carte lunch menu, and a lunch menu for restaurant week. The prix fixe brunch menu included unlimited cocktails, so I bet you can guess which menu we chose.
For my cocktail I had a Bloody Mary, extra spicy, not only do I love the flavor but I feel like there must be some extra nutrients with the tomato juice. Scratch that, I just love me a Bloody Mary.
Next the waiter brought out some multi-grain bread. This bread made my day, perfectly crusty on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside.
Finally it was time for our mains. We all ordered the same dish, three eggs anyway, but asked the waiter to make little tweaks. The menu item includes bacon, but since none of us were having that we each got a special sub. It really makes me happy when restaurants allow substitutions, and I find it equally maddening when they don’t. Especially in cases like this, when all you want to sub is a side.
My take on the dish included poached eggs and an arugula salad. I love poached eggs, I can only eat yokes if there runny. The potatoes were even more delicious with the yokey sauce.
After brunch we had a nice relaxing walk to my apartment where we were greeted by a film crew. Apparently, Jeff rented out the loft for a movie shoot. We’ve done this before and its always been fun but this crew was not the best bunch. They were behaving as though they were entitled to anything in the apartment, yes they paid for the space, but not my plates, glasses and stevia. And definitely not my blueberry cupcakes!
Fortunately we had a wonderful rooftop escape, complete with a pool!
That’s right we’re high-class at Chez Chubby Hubby. I don’t care if it is a kiddie pool, it was the most wonderfully relaxing dip I’ve had in ages.
Later that afternoon, Dori and Missy headed out to a concert while I cranked out some work. Things have been busy at the office and I wanted to get a head start on the week ahead. I took a brief break for a 3 mile run followed by dinner. The film crew was in the kitchen so Jeff and I had an improptu dinner on the roof. For my first course I enjoyed a spinach salad topped with lots of roasted vegetables.
The grilled veggies included eggplant, zucchini, squash and brussels. Yum.
For my second course, I had a grilled quesadilla with yogurt cheese. Simple but yummy. Unfortunately, this is the only pic I have – rain started immediately after.
The night continued with some drama on the home front due to the film crew. They didn’t leave until well after midnight and there was no clean-up. Luckily we had a security deposit which we used for a professional cleaning crew today. I’m going to love coming home to a clean house tonight.
And that wraps up the weekend. Hope you all had as much fun as I did!!
