Food for Fuel and a Giveaway

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Since I already eat pretty clean, the food I ate before the race wasn’t that different then what I would have had on a normal day. I wasn’t at my house so I didn’t have access to the same foods though, but my sister and I did a pretty good job of fueling for the race.

Dinner

Dinner Friday was super delicious and meat-free. I have said in the past that I wouldn’t go vegatarian but I’ve been eating less meat lately and I feel really good.  Anyway, Annie picked me up from the train station that night, and I didn’t get in til 7:40 so we were both ravenous by the time we got home. Dinner needed to be quick and easy.

We had Boca’s Spicy Chik’n Patties made with Natural Ingredients, sandwiched between one Arnold’s Honey Wheat Sandwich Thins, a side of steamed veggies and some really amazing sweet potato chips.

Annie is a pro at making sweet potatoes. With just the smallest variations she keeps it interesting. These had a dusting of cajun seasoning. Yum yum!

Before the race

We were up at 5:45 in order to get to the race in time. There was much time to eat before and I didn’t run on a full stomach. Luckily Annie had some TLC Fruit and Grain bars. Unluckily they were dark chocolate with coconut. I hate coconut. But these were actually quite good. The coconut flavor was really subdued. The bars are made with a blend of rolled granola, a layer of fruit and nuts. With 4g of fiber and protein each, they are pretty filling.

After the race I had a banana and a spoonful of peanut butter. Annie has an entire shelf dedicated to peanut butter.

Giveaway!

Which brings me to an exciting giveaway: Love Veggies and Yoga is offering a Naturally Nutty Give Away to 5 Winners! Each winner will choose his/her nut butter flavor and can choose either one large (15 oz) or two small (8 oz each) jars. There are tons of ways to enter so be sure to check out Love Veggies and Yoga giveaway.

Naturally Nutty was started by a vegetarian mother who was looking for the most healthy and wholesome option available. She didn’t trust the commercial brands and came up with these nut butters. All of their nut butters are made with organic flax and organic hemp seed. In case you weren’t aware, flax seeds and hemp seeds are both excellent sources of Omega-3s and Omega-6s, hemp seed also provides Omega-9. The peanut butters come in a no stir formulation and have minimal oil separation.

I’m entering for the Organic Pepita Sun Seed butter and the Butter Toffee Peanut Butter.

How yummy to these peanut butters look? Even if I don’t win I fully intend on ordering some – they are too good to resist. Remember, for full details on the giveaway, visit Love Veggies and Yoga. You have until Wednesday, May 26 to enter. Good luck!
