Two Classics Combined

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I have a meeting in New Jersey today (what a surprise!) so I knew last night I wouldn’t have time to fix breakfast in the morning. I’ve never had Oats in a Jar or Overnight Oats, and I figured now was as good a time as any. Instead of trying them out separately, I combined the two.

Overnight Oats in a Jar

Here’s the base. It doesn’t look very appetizing.

Once I added in some sweet toppings that all changed:

Last night’s base included:
1/3 cup Old Fashioned Quaker Oats
1/3 cup Fage Total 0%
1/c cup water
1 tbsp chia seeds

Added this morning:
1 apricot
3 oz blackberries
1/2 cup Kashi GoLean

So what did I think you ask? Well I LOVED the cold oats. Seriously so refreshing. But the texture was disappointing. It wasn’t as creamy as I like, it didn’t blend like hot oats do. Making them in the jar let me get that last bit of peanut butter but it didn’t melt in the way I liked. Will I make it again? Probably not. But I will make oatmeal the regular way and then refrigerate it so I can have some cold oats. Maybe I’ll even try that tonight!

Okay I’m out for the day! Happy Hump Day!!
