One of the best things about having so many sibling (10 total) is the extended birthday celebration. With so many people in different places its impossible to get everyone together at once. I mean, my parents did come to NYC two weeks early to celebrate. I was treated with yet another birthday celebration this past weekend with my brother (and godfather) Rob, his wife Liz and their daughter Willa.
They arrived bright and early Saturday morning and after playing around in the apartment for a bit, we decided to head out for my birthday brunch.
Willa is easily one of the most pleasant babies ever and is fine in any setting but still we wanted to go to a restaurant that was kid-friendly. I decided on Petite Abielle, a Belgian restaurant in the Flatiron District. Petite Abielle means little bee and is the title of a popoular children’s book. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, perfect for family dining or brunch with friends.
Being a Belgian restaurant there is one thing this place is known for – Waffles! That made brunch an easy decision. Mr. Chubby and I decided to share two plates – the famous strawberry waffles and an omelet.
The Gaufre Chantilly (aka waffles with whipped cream and strawberries) were to die for. Light fluffy and just sweet enough. Yum.
After brunch we went to Union Square to check out the playground. Jeffie’s been trying to find an excuse to check this spot out but didn’t want to seem like a total creeper, luckily we had Willa with us.
Willa loved the swings.
Next up? Eataly. I’ve been dying to check this out. I’m glad I came on a full stomach – the store was packed and waiting for food would have taken ages. Everything looks great – I can’t wait to try it out for real.
Last stop of the afternoon was Madison Square Park.
We were pooped!
It was a fabulous weekend and I’m so grateful that I was able to celebrate my birthday with my family. I love when my siblings come to visit!
How was your weekend?
