A Whole Lot of Yoga

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

So I started my day yesterday with Core Fusion Yoga, and I ended it with Bikram.  It’s been a while since I’ve done Bikram, partly because I just haven’t had the time and partly because I haven’t had the motivation. Plus there’s the fact that some of my favorite instructors recently left. So that also kept me from going. But I decided last night I needed a good detox, and what better way than to get it all out than during an hour and a half sweat fest?

Although both classes are considered yoga, neither follow the traditional format. What I like about Core Fusion is that it really works your body, Bikram really does clean you out, mentally, physically and emotionally. I’m glad I did both, it really gave me a different kind of awareness.

Because I spent my whole day in classes, I never got around to posting my meals, so here’s a quick update from yesterday:

Lunch

I remembered to pack – yay!! I made an amazing salad: it included grilled portobello mushrooms, mixed greens, celery tomatoes, carrots, quinoa and a hard boiled egg.

Quinoa is a small seed and has the highest protein content of any grain, it contains all 8 essential amino acids, and is considered a complete protein. It also delivers fiber, iron, magnesium, calcium and vitamins A and E.

It was so delicious. The quinoa was super fluffy, which I prefer to other grains which can be dense.

Dinner

I didn’t get home from Bikram until 10 PM and the snack I had before (dried cranberries and almonds) didn’t do much to hold me over. I needed this meal to be fast, so I went with things that cook in under 5 minutes – boiled shrimp, micro “baked” sweet potato and spinach from Peter’s (Jeff brought so home for me).

This plate, although thrown together at the last minute, included all of my favorite items. I seriously could live on what you see here.

What excuses do you have for not working out? What do you do to get your motivation back?
