About once every 3 months I become obsessed with a particular breakfast. When I first started blogging I had an addiction to bagels with Tofutti better then cream cheese. Soon there after I discovered chia seeds and the delicious simplicity of a yogurt parfait.

Fast forward to today and my latest obsession is oat bran. I’ve always loved oatmeal, but somehow in 26 years I have never tasted the glory that is oat bran. Not only are the nutrition stats amazing (1/2 cup has 120 calories, 8 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber), I also love the texture and nutty flavor. I have a lot of lost time to make up for.

Over the course of the next three months, you can assume most of my breakfasts will look like this:

Some people might call this a rut, but if you aren’t bored is that really the case? Besides I plan on switching up the mix-ins frequently. It’s raspberries today but tomorrow it could be pumpkin, apple, banana, figs, chocolate, PB, the possibilities are endless.

Another thing I’m obsessing over lately? Homemade almond milk. I’ve been drinking almond milk for a while now but I only recently started making it from scratch. I came across this recipe on Choosing Raw and haven’t looked back since.  The flavors between the store bought Almond Milk and the real deal aren’t even comparable. If you haven’t tried it yet give it a go. The recipe is a piece of cake.

First soak your almonds in water – I soaked mine for 12 hours. Drain your almonds and place them in a blender.

Add 4 cups of water.

Your flavoring, I went with vanilla and cinnamon.

Blend until Frothy.

Strain and enjoy.

Some people opt to keep the nutty bits in. I don’t like any kind of pulp in my drinks so I use a cheese cloth to give it a good strain. Check out Gena’s blog for the full recipe.

My latest workout obsession is high intensity interval training (HIIT). Again HIIT is something I learned about through the blog world, from the lovely Jessica at How Sweet It Is. Her HIIT treadmill workout was the first I ever tried. The great thing about HIIT is that its extremely quick yet still effective. After one 20 minute workout I feel more challenged than I do when I run an hour at a steady pace.

    Oat bran and oatmeal are gross to me. the only way I really like oatmeal is in cookies or pancakes! :) I wish I did though–looks so hearty and filling.

    girrrrrl oat bran is the shizNAT. i’ve been eating the same breakfast for like the entire year just because i’m utterly obssessed with overnight oatbran and the thickness it gets! what brand do you use? i use whole foods or tjs toasted :) both are to die faww

    I can’t handle pulp in drinks either. Also, I didn’t realize quite how easy it would be to make your own almond milk. Wow!

    I do the same thing with meals. One particular thing sounds good for an extended period of time and then I move on. It works. LOL
