Midnight Movie

Last night after one of the best Bikram classes ever, I met Jeff for our date night. We typically reserve date night for Friday, but is going to be out of town so Thursday it was.

We started out with dinner at Angelo and Maxie’s Steakhouse (guess who chose that one…). Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to get appetizers. My parents recognized that most appetizers were deep fried, extra large, calorie bombs. Plus they were paying for 13, so apps weren’t happening. As I’ve gotten older however, appetizers have become my favorite part of the meal. Probably because most are deep fried.

Lately I’ve been trying to stay off appetizers, mostly because of cost, but also because they are so filling that I can’t enjoy my entrée. Plus I’d much rather have a snack from the bread basket. Like this one:

Oh bread, how I love thee.
I split this buttery bread stick with Jeff. It had a touch of sea salt. Reminiscent of a Philadelphia Soft Pretzel. Best pretzels in the world.
For  dinner I had the Fillet Mignon Salad, but I subbed the steak for Shrimp. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy read meat, but after an intense Bikram class you don’t really want to eat anything heavy. The salad was topped with spicy cashews, which complemented the shrimp nicely.

Jeff, of course, had the Rib Eye. He shared a couple of bites. It was glorious.

And a side of broccoli. I’m pretty sure this is an entire head.

After dinner we headed uptown to see the midnight showing of Iron Man 2. Having not seen the first I had no clue what to expect. It was awesome! Robert Downey Jr. was amazing in his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark and Don Cheadle was also quite enjoyable to watch. Gwyneth and Scarlett were pretty good as well. The ambiance in the theater made it even better – everyone was so excited and clearly huge comic fans. They made it an experience, not just a movie. By the time I got home I was pooped.  It was already 2:30 and I needed to be up in 5 hours. This morning was not pretty!!

Do you order appetizers when you eat out? Do you care about the nutrition details or are they a special indulgence?
